PTDF Scholarship 2024

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), the Federal Government agency with the mandate of developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the Overseas MSc and PhD scholarships to specific programmes at selected institutions under its scheme for the new academic session.

The scheme was developed to offer candidates the opportunity to benefit from a diversified pool of knowledge and the facilities offered by world-class institutions across the globe.

Under it, candidates are invited to apply through PTDF to specific programmes at partner institutions.

The award includes the provision of flight tickets, payment of health insurance, payment of tuition and bench fees (where applicable), and the provision of allowances to meet the costs of accommodation and living expenses.

For the award, applications will be limited to PTDF partner universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia, where it feels the scholarship’s high standards can be maintained and the objectives of the scheme will be best served.

PTDF Scholarship Requirements

PTDF scholarships are highly competitive, and only candidates who are outstanding across the board are selected.

Based on the submitted qualifications, the top applicants for each category from each state will be invited for an interview, where a selection committee will be made up to assess applications using the following criteria:

  • Academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees, full academic transcripts and other professional qualifications gained.
  • Relevant publications to be referenced by applicant (PhD applicants only).
  • Membership in professional bodies.
  • The viability of the study/research plan.

MSc Requirements

  • A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience.
  • Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Possession of 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry and its expected impact on national development.
  • Applicants must have National Identity Number (NIN) and verification will be required (NIMC verification charges apply) before applying for the scholarship.

PhD Requirements

  • Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
  • Must be computer literate.
  • A minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good second-degree certificate.
  • A research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than five pages) to include the title, introduction, research problem, aim, research questions/objectives, scope, summarized literature, methodology, expected outcomes only where necessary.
  • All lecturers must produce a letter from their Vice Chancellors confirming that they are not in receipt of any other scholarships (if shortlisted).
  • Applicants must have National Identity Number (NIN) and verification will be required (NIMC verification charges apply) before applying for the scholarship.

Required Documents

Applicants are advised to scan copies of these documents and attach them to their online application forms.

  • First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result.
  • NYSC discharge certificate.
  • WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results and the PINs on the application forms to enable PTDF to view the O’level results on the relevant website.
  • Recent Passport Photograph.
  • Local Government Identification Letter.
  • Master’s Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only).
  • Evidence of membership in professional associations.

Scholarship Portal

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarship Portal is an online platform where you can apply for a scholarship.

To apply for the PTDF Scholarship through the portal, create an account and provide this information:

  • Your name.
  • Your email address.
  • Your phone number.
  • Your date of birth.
  • Your gender.
  • Your nationality.
  • Your state of origin.
  • Your academic qualifications.

Monthly Stipend

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) scholarship offers a monthly stipend of ₦‎50,000 for postgraduate students studying in Nigeria and $1,000 for students studying outside Nigeria.

The stipend is paid to the student’s bank account in installments every month.

The PTDF scholarship also covers the cost of tuition fees, living expenses, and travel expenses.

The scholarship is renewable for up to two years, depending on the student’s academic performance.

PTDF Scholarship Deadline 2024

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarship deadline is March 22, 2024.

The application portal will be open from 12th February 2024 to 22nd March 2024.

PTDF Scholarship Shortlist 2024

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) wishes to announce that the selection interview that will lead to the award of scholarship for Overseas Scholarship Scheme (OSS) MSc and PhD programme is scheduled to hold from 17th June 2024 to 21st June 2024.

The interviews will hold in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted with details of their time and venues of interview.

Only those who met the requirements as advertised for the application will be shortlisted and invited for the oral interview.

Selection for the award will be based strictly on performance in the interview.

PTDF Scholarship List of Successful Candidates

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) will announce the release of the list of successful awardees for the 2024/2025 United Kingdom and Germany, France, and Malaysia (GFM) Strategic Partnership Scholarships (MSc/PhD) on 8th September 2024.

The recipients of the award are those candidates who have presented the Fund with the highest academic qualifications, displayed exceptional potential and aptitude, and have been able to present the most convincing case for the relevance and application of their proposed study to the Nigerian Oil and gas industry.
