Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC)

In the year 2012, the Federal Government of Nigeria upgraded the Nigeria Police Academy Wudil- Kano State, to a degree – awarding institution and the National Universities Commission (NUC), recognized the Academy as the thirty-seventh (37th) Federal University and the one hundred and twenty-fourth (124th) University in Nigeria.

The Nigeria Police Academy is a federal university established by the federal government of Nigeria to train students not only in academics but in security.

The aims and objectives of establishing the Police academy are:

  • To provide an institution capable of producing qualitative workforce, especially at the ASP, in order to meet up with the middle level workforce requirements of the Nigeria Police Force.
  • To equip trainees with competences backed by sound academic background, high professional and moral standards for effective law enforcement and selfless service to the Nation.

The sale of online application forms for admission into the 10th Regular Course of the degree programme of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, will begin on 1st August 2023 and end on 12th September 2023.

Admission Portal

The Nigeria Police Academy (NPA), also known as POLAC, has an online admission portal that allows candidates to apply for admission to the academy.

To apply for admission to the NPA, first create an account on the portal.

Once you have created an account, fill out an application form and upload the required documents.

The required documents include:

  • A copy of your SSCE or equivalent certificate.
  • A copy of your birth certificate.
  • A recent passport-sized photograph.
  • A medical report.

After submitting the application form, pay the application fee.

The application fee is currently ₦‎3,500.

Once the application fee has been paid, you will track the status of your application on the portal.

The portal will also provide you with information about the admission process, including the dates of the entrance examination and the selection interview.

School Fees

The Nigeria Police Academy (NPA) does not charge any school fees.

The cost of logistics and studying at the academy is borne by the Federal Government.

This includes feeding, accommodation, water, health care, and study materials.

Students are also given a monthly allowance.

The only cost that students are required to pay is the application fee, which is currently ₦‎3,500.

This fee covers the cost of processing the application and conducting the entrance examination.

Police Academy Training Duration in Nigeria

The Police academy training in Nigeria lasts for 18 months.

It is divided into three stages: basic, intermediate, and advanced.

The basic stage lasts for 6 months and covers these topics:

  • Drill and Ceremony
  • Police Duties
  • Laws, Criminal Law of Evidence, and Criminal Procedure
  • First Aid
  • Firearms Training
  • Physical Fitness

The intermediate stage lasts for 6 months and covers these topics:

  • Investigation
  • Traffic Management
  • Community Policing
  • Counter-terrorism
  • Intelligence Gathering

The advanced stage lasts for 6 months and covers these topics:

  • Leadership and Management
  • Human Rights
  • Public Relations
  • Crime Prevention
  • Terrorism

After completing the 18-month training program, cadets are commissioned as Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).

They are then assigned to a police unit where they will continue their training and development.

Here are some requirements for admission to the Nigeria Police Academy:

  • Be between the ages of 17 and 22 at the time of admission.
  • Be free from any physical deformity or mental disability.
  • Be medically fit and meet the academy’s medical requirements.
  • Be of moral character and have no criminal record.
  • Be physically fit and meet the academy’s height and weight requirements.
  • Must be a Nigerian citizen.
  • Must be able to swim.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) credits at the SSCE or equivalent in Use of English, Mathematics, any other two (2) Arts or Social Science subjects.
  • Must pass the entrance examination and selection interview.
  • Sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Nigeria Police Academy is a highly competitive institution, and admission is based on merit.

Cut Off Mark

The Nigeria Police Academy (NPA) cut-off mark for the 2024 academic session is 180.

This means that candidates who score 180 or above in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be eligible to apply for admission to the academy.

The NPA cut-off mark is set by the academy’s board of directors and is based on several factors, including the number of places, the level of competition, and the quality of the applicants.

The cut-off mark is usually announced a few months before the start of the application process.

POLAC Entrance Examination Date

The Management, Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil-Kano wishes to announce its Computer-Based Test (CBT) for candidates who attended the 9th Regular Intake Automated Credential/Physical Screening Exercise which took place in the 36 State Police Command Headquarters and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The Computer-Based Test (CBT) is scheduled to take place at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil-Kano, Computer Centre from 7th November 2023 to 15th November 2023 at 7:00 am daily.

Candidates are to report at the Nigeria Police Academy on the date and time on their invitation letter.

Applicants are advised to visit the Nigeria Police Academy website to login with their respective username and password to print out their invitation letter.

Invited applicants are to come along with the following to the venue of the Computer-Based Test (CBT):

  • Letter of Invitation
  • National Identity Number (NIN) Slip.
  • Applicants are to be dressed in white t-shirt on short white knicker and white canvas.
  • Acknowledgement Form
  • JAMB Result Slip
  • Examination Card
  • 2 Two postcard size photographs (3.5×5 inches)

Note that backpacks of any kind, bags, mobile phones, MP3 Player, smartwatches and other electronic devices would not be allowed into the CBT venue.

In the event where any of these items are found in possession or around the applicant during the CBT, such an issue would be treated as an attempt to cheat.

The Nigeria Police Academy Rules and Regulations

The Nigeria Police Academy (NPA) has a set of rules and regulations that all cadets must adhere to.

These rules and regulations ensure the academy runs smoothly and that all cadets are treated fairly.

Some of the key rules and regulations of the NPA include:

  • Cadets are required to wear the academy uniform. The uniform is a symbol of the academy and its values, and it is important that all cadets uphold the academy’s standards.
  • Cadets are expected to behave in a disciplined manner. This means following the rules and regulations of the academy, as well as respecting their instructors and fellow cadets.
  • Cadets are required to attend all classes and training sessions. Attendance is taken at the beginning of each class, and cadets who are absent without a valid reason may be penalized.
  • Cadets are expected to maintain a minimum academic standard. If a cadet’s academic performance falls below the required standard, they may be placed on academic probation or even expelled from the academy.
  • Cadets may not use mobile phones or other electronic devices during classes or training sessions.
  • Cadets may not smoke or drink alcohol on academy premises.
  • Cadets may not leave the academy without permission.
  • Cadets may not engage in any form of hazing or bullying.

The NPA rules and regulations are strictly enforced.

Cadets who violate the rules and regulations may be subject to disciplinary action, which could include suspension or expulsion from the academy.
