With the increasing incidents of compromise on conventional security systems (password and PIN), there is a high demand for greater security for access to sensitive or personal information in the Banking System.
To address these issues and enhance security with payment systems, the Central Bank of Nigeria, in collaboration with all Nigerian banks, launched a biometric identification system known as the Bank Verification Number (BVN) in February 2014.
The BVN gives each customer a unique identity that can be identified and verified across the Nigerian Banking Industry.
It will also address issues of theft and help in reducing the level of fraud in Nigerian banks.
How to Enroll for Access Bank BVN
- Visit any Access Bank branch and complete the enrolment form.
- Your biometric data (fingerprint, photograph and signature) will be captured on the system.
- You will then receive a Ticket ID.
- BVN will be sent to your registered mobile number.
Already have a BVN? Link your BVN to your Access Bank account.
You can link your BVN to your Access Bank account through these methods:
1. Via Website
2. Via SMS
- Text BVN, your account number and BVN number to 20121 e.g., BVN 06812345678 22498765432 to 20121.
3. Via Internet Banking
- Login on the Internet Banking platform.
- Select the Service Requests Menu.
- Select Initiate Service Request.
- Select Link BVN.

Dial *565*0# on the phone number linked to your Access Bank account.
Your BVN will be displayed on your screen.
2. Access Bank Mobile App
Open the Access Bank Mobile App and log in to your account.
Tap on the “Profile” tab and then tap on “Bank Verification Number (BVN)”.
Your BVN will be displayed on the screen.
3. Access Bank Internet Banking
Log in to Access Bank Internet Banking and click on the “Profile” tab.
Then, click on “Bank Verification Number (BVN)”.
Your BVN will be displayed on the screen.
4. Access Bank WhatsApp Banking
Send a message to +234 9090 901 901 with the text “Hi”.
In the reply message, you will see a link to check your BVN.
5. Visit an Access Bank Branch
Visit any Access Bank branch and ask a teller to check your BVN.
The cost of checking your BVN through USSD is ₦20.
There is no charge for checking your BVN through the other methods.
