1. The Nigerian Military School

The Nigerian Military School (NMS) is a boarding school for boys in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria.

It was founded in 1954 and is one of the most prestigious military schools in Africa.

The school’s mission is to “provide quality education and military training to young men who are potential future leaders of Nigeria.”

The curriculum at NMS includes academic subjects, military training, and physical education.

Students are also required to take part in extracurricular activities such as sports, music, and drama.

Admission to NMS is competitive.

Applicants must pass a written exam and an interview.

The school is open to all Nigerian boys who meet the eligibility requirements.

NMS graduates have gone on to successful careers in the military, government, and business.

Entry Requirements for Admission

Once every year, NMS opens admission for suitably qualified candidates to apply.

The application period usually opens between the middle of February to the end of May (subject to review).

NMS trains male Nigerian boys only.

Admission of boys into the school is strictly for JSS1 only.

Here are the key entry requirements for admission into NMS:

  • You must be a male Nigerian.
  • Be at least 12 years old and not over 14 years old by October 1st of the year of entry.
  • You must have completed Primary School education.
  • Be medically and physically fit.
  • Be of good moral character.
  • Fill and submit the application form online through the portal.
  • Sit for the Entrance Examination on the scheduled date and at the venue.
  • Report to the examination centre with the original copy of your Exam Photocard as generated from the portal. Candidates without Exam Photocard shall NOT be allowed to sit for the exam.
  • Report to the examination centre with print-out copies of their application form and payment slip as generated from the portal.
  • Candidates invited for selection interview will be made to undergo compressive physical and medical examinations.
  • Candidates invited for selection interview will be required to come with original copies of Birth Certificate, completed Local Government Certificate of Origin, Exam Photocard and other documents/items to be communicated.

Admission into NMS is open to all male Nigerians who fulfil the entry requirements.

It is NOT restricted to only children of military personnel.

NMS does NOT accept students on transfer from other schools.

All candidates must enroll at JSS 1 and then work hard and diligently to complete their education and training up to SS 3.

NMS application form fee is ₦2,500 only, inclusive of bank transaction charges.

Payments for NMS admission application form can be made in two ways viz:

  • By printing your payment slip and taking it to a bank for payment, or
  • By paying directly online using your bank-issued debit card (i.e., ATM card).

If you wish to pay online, log in to the candidate’s dashboard and click the “My Payment” tab.

When the payment advice slip opens, click the “Pay Online” button and complete the transaction.

If you prefer to pay physically at a Bank, log in to the Candidate’s Dashboard and click the “My Payment” tab.

When the payment advice slip opens, click the “Pay At Bank” button, then print out the payment slip and take it to any of the designated Banks to make payment.

2. Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA)

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), a federal university and military academy in Kaduna, was established on 5 February 1964 in response to the defence needs of independent Nigeria to train officers for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The role of the academy is to provide each officer cadet with knowledge, skills and values necessary to meet the requirements of a military officer through military, academic and character development.

The NDA is an institution where selected young able-bodied men and women are groomed into well educated, courageous, virile and erudite subalterns.

The NDA offers a five-year undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Military Science.

The program is divided into two phases: the first phase is academic, and the second phase is military training.

Admission to the NDA is competitive.

Applicants must pass a written exam and an interview.

The school is open to all Nigerian citizens who meet the eligibility requirements.

NDA graduates are commissioned as second lieutenants in the Nigerian Armed Forces.

They are trained in all aspects of military leadership, including tactics, strategy, and logistics.

Entry Requirements for Admission

Here are the key entry requirements for admission into the NDA:

  • Be medically and physically fit and must be of good moral character.
  • Must be single male or female without legal obligation to support any child or other individuals.
  • Present a certificate of indigene from the state government or local government area.
  • Be at least 17 years old and NOT over 21 years old as at August (the year of entry into the academy).
  • Have a minimum of 5 ordinary level credits at GCE, SSCE (WAEC, NECO, NBAIS and NABTEB) English language, Mathematics and three other subjects which apply to the intended programme at not over two sittings.
  • Must have passed the Unified Tertiary Matriculation examinations (UTME) and attain an acceptable minimum national standard (as determined by JAMB annual policy meeting) in English language, Mathematics and any other 2 subjects relevant to the proposed course of study as set out by the JAMB brochure.
  • Must NOT be less than 1.68 meters tall for male and 1.65 meters for female.
  • French, Arabic and Mandarin language are an added advantage.

Application forms submitted without ordinary-level results will NOT be accepted.

Candidates awaiting results are not qualified.

Only ordinary level examination results of NOT over 5 years old from examination will be accepted.

Admission to the academy is for both male and female Nigerians only.

Candidates should logon to the application portal, select “Purchase Access Code” pay for their application via REMITA in the sum of ₦‎3,500 only.

Only payment against RRR codes generated via the application portal would be accepted.

Applicants applying for admission into the NDA must also apply to JAMB and must select NDA as their first choice institution.

Such applicants are expected to sit for the JAMB UTME.

Application forms are to be submitted together with the scanned SSCE results online.

On submission of the online application, candidates are to download an Acknowledgement Form.

3. The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT)

The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) is a military university in Kaduna, Nigeria.

It was established in 1992 and is the only university in Nigeria that offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in aerospace engineering.

AFIT offers a wide range of courses in aerospace engineering, including aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, and flight mechanics.

4. The Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC)

The Nigeria Police Academy Wudil, Kano State, is a degree – awarding institution recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as the thirty-seventh (37th) Federal University and the one hundred and twenty-fourth (124th) University in Nigeria.

The Nigeria Police Academy is a federal university established by the federal government of Nigeria to train students not only in academics but in security.

The aims and objectives of establishing the police academy are:

5. Naval War College Nigeria

The need to fill the observed skills, abilities and knowledge gaps within the management cadre to enhance the NN capacity to respond to the complex emerging maritime threats caused the establishment of the Naval War College.

6. Nigerian Naval Engineering College

The Nigerian Naval Engineering College Sapele, Delta State, founded in 1982, produced technical labour force in sufficient number and right quality to meet the engineering requirements of the Nigerian Navy (NN).

7. Nigerian Navy Secondary School Abeokuta

The Nigerian Navy Secondary School Abeokuta is a secondary school in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.

It was founded in 1990 but the first set of students attended on 2 March 1991.

8. Nigerian Army College of Nursing (NACON)

The Nigerian Army College of Nursing (NACON) is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and by the National Board of Technical Education.

NACON is one of the few military institutions in Nigeria that is accredited by the NMCN.

This means that the college’s programs meet the NMCN standards for quality education and practice.

If you graduate from NACON, you will be eligible to register with the NMCN as a registered nurse or midwife.

This will allow you to practice nursing or midwifery in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Army College of Nursing (NACON) admission list for the new academic session will be released after the selection interview, which is usually held in August.
