Getting started…

How to Unlink NIN Number

The National Identification Number (NIN) is the unique number which identifies you as a Nigerian and is issued to you upon enrollment by NIMC (The National Identity Management Commission).

It is used to match your biometric data and other details in the National Identity Database during verification and authentication.

NIN is used to tie all records about an individual into the National Identity Database and is also used as a valid means of establishing or verifying individual identity.

You can register for NIN at any NIMC enrolment center.

To confirm your NIN number, check your NIN slip.

It has your 11 digit number in the top left corner, in the second row.

You can also dial *346# and press 1 to retrieve your NIN.

To unlink your NIN from your SIM, follow these steps:

  • Visit the nearest National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) office.
  • Provide your NIN, the phone number you want to unlink, and a valid means of identification (e.g., your passport, driver’s license, or national ID card) to the customer service desk officer.
  • Once you have provided this information, the NIMC officer will be able to unlink the phone number from your NIN.
  • You will receive a receipt confirming that the phone number has been unlinked.

You can only unlink a NIN number that is linked to your name.

You cannot unlink a NIN number that is linked to someone else’s name.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have other questions.
